Michael and Vincent’s therapy session hits a snag when Vincent insists that his mother should not be mentioned going forwards.
Therapy 1.1
SHE WHO WILL NOT BE NAMED
Michael: Hello, Hello Vincent.
Vincent: Hi Michael. How are you?
Michael: I'm well. I'm well. Good to. Good to see you again.
Vincent: Oh thank you. Um, sorry. It's been a few weeks, um, since, uh our first session. I, um. I just needed a bit of time after that session because, uh, I was a little upset about how it all ended. Um, I just need to say this before we continue. I just sort of felt like it. It . I wasn't happy with how it ended. Um, like with , uh, with the laughter about my mom. And I've just ... sort of decided that from this point on, umm, I don't want my mum mentioned at all, so I won't be talking about my mother at all if that's okay. I know that's probably quite a strange thing to ask, but I just don't want to go there.
Michael: That's understandable... now... as a ... as a ... as a strict Freudian , you understand thats going to be very awkward. But we'll have to obviously work around that. Are you okay that we talk... that we talk about your siblings though?
Vincent: Yes, that should be okay. Um yeah, I just don't want to, um. Well , at this stage, I just don't want to talk about my mother. Um, and that would be , uh... Yeah, I'd appreciate if you respected that.
Michael: No , that's fine. But. But you say at this stage. So. So you're leaving the door open to possibly discussing your mother at some future stage, is that correct?
Vincent: I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I just. I just . I just sort of , um. I don't know . I just find it really , um really painful. And. But I'm a bit, you know , she was a great woman. I really loved her . And , you know , she's really cool, but she, you know , died a long time ago, and it was just really annoying.
Michael: No look, that's that's. Let's leave that in the past. And as you say, it's a long time ago. But... but... but listen, let's ... let's not dwell on that and let's let's... let's just, you know , move on. And that's but, you know, before we can, you know move on to the session and deal with things , let's you know , let's deal with the... let's deal with the , you know , the , you know , the sort of preliminaries , if you like. There were a few things when I reviewed my notes that I wanted to cover off before we got into the session proper. And the one that, you know, concerned me in particular was, you know, the the thing that we talked about ... was the , you know , the risk of ...risk of , you know, self harm and in particular harm. And ... and , you know , in the session that we... we had last week, there was , you know, that , you know the incident with the lasagna .
